Lessons
My lessons for dyslexics provide the training that is often much needed but missed out on by dyslexic students in the classroom. This training is intended to establish and strengthen the mental habits involved in reading, spelling and writing. These include:
Phonics: the foundation of reading, the ability to translate written letters and letter combinations into spoken words.
Phonemics: the foundation of spelling and writing, the ability to translate spoken words into written letters, words and sentences.
In addition to training in these essential areas I also provide instruction in seven additional levels of literacy, which include:
-
Comprehension of the meaning of sentences and stories as a whole
-
Learning how to read with expression
-
Learning to read fluently by understanding punctuation and new words
-
Learning to read for pleasure by identifying stories and other information that is interesting to the student
-
Learning to read for discovery by researching new words and ideas
-
Learning for the purpose of summarizing material
-
And learning for the purpose of teaching others
By the time the student finishes my full series of lessons, he or she will be fully prepared to go on to more reading for school, work or pleasure with a comprehensive understanding of written and spoken English.
